1. Aim and Scope:
Genetic mouse models are vital to understand the functions of genes and genetic networks in health and disease. This training course organized by Chinese Society for Cell Biology (CSCB) and Model Animal Research Center of Nanjing University includes both comprehensive lectures and workshops on mouse genetics and phenotyping. The course aims to help participants understand the versatility of mouse as an important model for studying gene function and human diseases, to improve the technical skills of participants in mouse phenotyping and histological analyses, to promote application and standardization of mouse genetics in international research community and to facilitate the collaboration and innovation in biomedical advances using mouse models in the developing countries.
2. Tentative Programs:
(1) Introduction to the National Resource Center of Model Mice (NRCMM)
(2) Basic principles of mouse development and genetics
(3) Generation of genetically modified mice: transgenic, knock-in, and knock-out
(4) Applications of genetic mouse models: from development to diseases
(5) Phenotyping platforms for genetic mouse models
(6) Workshop 1: Mouse models of developmental defects
(7) Workshop 2: Mouse models of neurological diseases
(8) Workshop 3: Mouse models of metabolic disorders
(9) Workshop 4: Mouse models of tumor biology
(10) Round-table discussion and Q & A
3. Eligibility:
The course is designed primarily for young doctoral and postdoctoral scientists, who are or will be soon using mouse models for research. Junior principal investigators are also welcome to apply. Applicants from the developing countries within Asia and pacific areas are preferred. Fifteen participants will be selected from the applicants by the organizing committee to attend the course.
